Cincinnati Wrap Up

What was expected to be a quick 7 night stay in Cincinnati ended up being a full 18 nights! The main reason for the delay was to make sure the Jeep was fully operational with the fixes needed to keep it from exhibiting the death shake. The fix at the Dealer went okay other than it took a lot longer than I was expecting. We also needed to get in a charging system between the motor home and the car while we are towing. The one I ordered had a slight delivery problem so it took a few extra days but once it arrived I didn't have too much difficulty installing it.

The fact we stayed so long here really wasn't an issue. FMCA was okay with it and it gave us a chance to visit more with family in the area. And even though we stayed that long, it still felt like there were things we wanted to do but ran out of time. I suppose that  just means there will be things to do the next time we are back in town.

One thing we did get to do was visit the American Sign Museum. This was one of several places in the tour books provided to out of town guests at my niece's wedding. My sister hadn't heard of it even after living here for decades. The two of us, along with my sister and her new son-in-law headed to the museum after having a good lunch at Camp Washington Chili.

The museum itself was $15 per person, but after spending the better part of the afternoon there, we definitely felt it was worth every penny of that. The wide variety of types of signs from pre-electric, to electric bulb to neon was pretty astounding. And with the information signs describing some of the history of each one, we found ourselves wandering around for a good hour before the guided tour started.

We had a good size group of 30 or more people, but it was a Saturday. The tour guide was very informative and told us all sorts of interesting facts. Even better, he took on questions from the group and really showed he knew his signs as opposed to somebody that had simply memorized a list of facts to give during the tour.

Surprisingly, there were a couple signs from Rochester NY. One of the earliest neon signs was a wreath from a business in Rochester and a golfer from a nine hole course at a Rochester amusement park. It was hard to pick just a few of the pictures I took, but here are some of the better ones. If you ever find yourself in the Cincinnati area looking for a way to spend a few hours, I can highly recommend it.
